청주 옛 연초제조창의 담배창고, 5년의 사진기록
도시재생의 큰 흐름이 청주에도 시작되었고, 작가는 집 근처 거대한 변화를 차근차근 기록하기 시작했습니다. 가장 큰 변화로는 약 10여 년 간 방치되어 있던 연초제조창 일원이 전체적으로 개발되었습니다.. 2015년 처음 촬영을 시작, 다음해부터 본격적으로 기록을 하였으며 2020년까지 5년간 촬영한 대부분의 사진은 한적한 새벽에 촬영을 하였고, 심미적인 아름다움을 위해 흑백 사진으로 표현하였습니다.
“사진은 언제나 이 세계를 파편적으로만 보여준다. 사진에서 역사적 가치와 의미를 찾고자 한다면 그 파편화된 이미지의 표면이 아니라 그 아래 역사적사실들로 인정된 의미와 가치정보를 연결하는 작업이 필요하다. 그것을 온전하게 결합시키는 일은 사진가와는 무관하며, 전적으로 역사의 기억과 의식속에서 합리적인 결론에 도달하는 정보를 가질 때만 가능하다.”

Five-year record of photographing the warehouse of an old cigarette manufacturing factory in Cheongju
Recently, urban regeneration projects are being implemented in many cities, and Cheongju has also started an urban regeneration project. Accordingly, photographer Lee Jae-bok has been documenting the enormous changes in the cigarette manufacturing factory near his house. The cigarette manufacturing factory site, which had been abandoned for about 10 years, began to be developed again for urban regeneration. He first took the photos in 2015 and continued to take photos for five years until 2020. Most of the photos were taken in the quiet early morning, and were taken in black and white to capture the beauty of the cigarette manufacturing warehouse.
“Photographs always show this world only in fragments. If you want to find historical value and meaning in photographs, you need to connect the meaning and value information recognized as historical facts below, not the surface of the fragmented images. The task of fully combining them has nothing to do with the photographer, and is only possible when you have information that reaches a reasonable conclusion within the memory and consciousness of history.”
